"Get Shot - A Visual Diary 1985-2012"

Goteblüd proudly presents photographs by Martin Sorrondeguy, in conjunction with the release of his latest book, "Get Shot - A Visual Diary 1985-2012."

Sorrondeguy was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, and grew up in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. Widely known as the vocalist of trailblazing hardcore/punk bands Los Crudos and Limp Wrist, Sorrondeguy's exhibit presents unique and vivid portraits of punk culture in over ten countries, from five continents.

Opening on Saturday, 12/1/2012, from 12-6pm. The artist will be present selling books, posters and postcards, as well as prints. There will also be a cake to celebrate the artist's upcoming birthday.

Goteblüd is a vintage zine store and gallery devoted to radical paper. Normal hours are Saturdays/Sundays from 12-5pm.

This show runs from 12/1/2012 through the end of January, 2013.

Free the Crass Symbol!

The symbol that Dave King created in 1977 made its first appearance in Penny Rimbaud's impassioned manifesto, "Christ's Reality Asylum." It then went on to become the logo for Crass, who defined anarcho punk for decades to follow.

In the intervening years, the symbol has been reproduced countless times, and become the basis for mashup, homage and reinterpretation.

Recently, a UK fashion house decided - like many others - to repurpose the logo for their clothing. They have reportedly claimed ownership of the symbol, despite 35 years of prior use. They also have a line of clothes called "Whore Wear" which, in their words, is "glam and chic yet bordering on trashy."

It is fitting that such an uninspired ripoff surrounds an anti-authoritarian symbol with a chain.

See the show "Symbol" and original unchained logo in person. It will remain on display at Goteblüd through March 4, 2012. Hours are Saturday/Sunday 12-5pm, located at 766 Valencia, San Francisco.

Is it possible to have too much fun? Maybe! Thank you to all who made this past weekend's event absolutely over the top! And thanks to the general public who showed up to our public stencil event, bringing an assortment of paintable objects above and beyond our expectations.

The stencil event was so popular that we have already decided to restage it again in early December. Watch this space for more details shortly.

NEW SHOW: Symbol by Dave King

In 1977, in the wilds of Essex, Dave King created a logo for his friend Penny's impassioned manifesto: "Christ's Reality Asylum." Later that same year, he moved to the US. He now lives in San Francisco, where he works as a graphic artist and photographer. In the intervening 34 years, what became the Crass symbol has been emblazoned on records, flags, clothing and human bodies. This exhibit will be the first time the artist has shown original sketches for the logo, alongside alternate versions and contemporary "remixes." Editions will be available for some of these designs.

TWO EVENTS:

First, the opening on Saturday, November 5th, from 6-9pm.

Second, on Sunday, November 6th, from 12-5pm, we will be holding a PUBLIC STENCIL EVENT. We will be offering FREE on-site logo spray painting. Bring your jacket, your shirt, your skateboard or your best flat surface and we will make you a piece of art.

This year's SF Zine Fest was simply incredible. We were blown away at the quality and the scope of independent publishing... especially things that go under the radar of indie press. It really proved that paper publishing is as important as ever. Thank you to everyone who inspired!

Also, here at Goteblüd we have some really incredible news to bring you in a month or so. We'll have more details shortly, but we are excited at some new directions and new shows coming to our space very soon. Watch this site for more info.

Finally, we will be formally announcing our annual trip to the NY Art Book Fair this month, so stay tuned.

The Goteblüd store will be CLOSED this coming weekend so that we can attend the 10th annual SF Zine Fest!

Come see us this Sat/Sun 9/3-4 from 11-6pm in Golden Gate Park at the Hall of Flowers. We'll be selling vintage zines and Wuvable Oaf comics.

We will also be moderating a panel discussion on Saturday 9/3 at 2:30pm with SFZF special guest Hamburger Eyes!

Goteblüd hosts the second of four tour dates celebrating the latest release of cult comic sensation WUVABLE OAF. Creator Ed Luce will be on hand to sign comics and prints, with a free mini-poster available to the first 25 guests.

Goteblüd is also proud to display a brand new exhibition of Luce's WUVABLE OAF original art, prints and ephemera, as well as works by other artists. Brad Rader (Emmy award winning animation director and artist on the GLAAD nominated graphic novel Fogtown), John Murasky (the creator and publisher behind Fat Free Comics), Skinner (prolific muralist, painter and musician) and sculptor/ceramacist Erik Erspamer all contribute their own personal takes on the Oaf and his ever-expanding cast of characters.
